Non of the systems at the enterprise are functioning alone. Data is floating from our source to another, getting validated and enriched by using external services, distributed to data analysis tools and so on. All this is part of Service Integration where we can make use of:

- ESB - Enterprise System Bus - general approach of having all the integration services and managing data synchronization in one place

- Messaging - allows asynchronous data transfer and processing. This solves issues with occasional spikes of incoming data, servers are not getting overwhelmed, getting better performance when processing final users requests.

- ETL - Extract, Transfer and Load - is an approach for bulk processing where data must be transferred from one database to another or passed to some service by record. ETL tools support data structure modifications, applying filters and other rules, calling external services.
